History

Phantom Village was born 19 years ago when a group of parents decided to offer their children a safe environment to go trick-or-treating in the town of Cantley. They put their ideas together to come up with a mock village where monsters, clowns and phantoms could welcome the children. The first edition was held at Longue Allée baseball diamond and featured about 13 family kiosks. For a price of admission of one bag of candies per child redistributed to the different kiosks, each child could go trick or treating safely throughout Phantom Village. The event was so successful that it has been repeated each year since, moving from the baseball diamond to Chalet Grand-Pré to behind St-Elizabeth Parish to its current site at Mont Cascades Resort. The good news of Phantom Village spread fast beyond the borders of Cantley and last year attracted over 9,000 costumed visitors from all over Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The event, almost the same age as the Municipality of Cantley itself, is now part of the social branding of the town and is the only cultural activity in our community which attracts large numbers of families from the city to the rural area. The town recognizes its power of attraction and its contribution to the quality of life of its citizens. The secret of its success year after year is not only its truly original concept but the participation of a dedicated group of volunteers operating with the support of the Municipality and of Mont Cascades Resort.

Program

The 2011 Edition of Phantom Village will offer plenty of surprises to our Trick or Treaters. Phantom Village is composed of over twenty haunted houses and busses, cemeteries, kiosks and home-made displays, all built by Halloween fanatics. As well as last year's favorites, several new kiosks will be on display.

Join in the magical fun of Halloween and let your imagination go wild! Whether as an individual, a family or a group, all new ideas are welcome : cemeteries, castles, spider webs, pirate ships, labs and more. Or else, you may wish to set up shop in our Children's Magical Kingdom. If you are short of ideas, don't worry, we have tons! We may also be able to help you get some of your material.
